The1990s music industry was not only famous for their rock genres. They also had some very popular pop and rap groups as well. Some of the most famous rappers became big in the 1990s. Some of those rappers were the Notorious B.I.G, Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Eminem, Dr. Dre, and DMX. The only rapper out of those groups that i was never a big fan of was Tupac Shakur. A lot of people always say that Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G changed the sound of rap music. Some of the Notorious B.I.G songs that I am fond of are Old Thing Back, Juicy, Big Papa, and Hypnotize. He was my favorite rapper of this era and possibly even of all time. I have never really been a huge fan of rap music in general but after hearing songs form this era, it really changed my out look on rap music. Some of the other famous songs from this era were Gin and Juice from Snoop Dog, California Love from Tupac Shakur, Still Dre from Dr. Dre, Where the Hood At from DMX, and Without Me from Eminem. 

The Pop industry was very big in the 1990s as well. some famous groups were the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and Ace of Base. Most of the bands appealed more to Females rather then males. Bands like NSYNC and the Back Street Boys were know as “Boy Bands”. Some of the songs From the Back Street Boys were Bye Bye Bye, Tearin'  Up My Heart, Thinking of You, and A Little More Time On You. Out of all these bands NSYNC was probably my favorite. Other famous songs were I Saw the Sign form Ace of Base, I Want it That Way from the Backstreet Boys, and Wannabe from the Spice Girls. The Pop music of the 1990s might not have been my personal favorite genre , but it was still very popular.

The Start of the 1990s

                Just like the 1980s, the 1990s also gave birth to a new kind of rock music. The big rock music was known as “Grunge Rock”. The 80s Hair Band scene was still around in the early 1990s, but soon faded away. Some of my favorite bands from this era would be Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Nickelback, Green Day, The Offspring, Fuel, Fire House, and my favorite band of all time, Buckcherry. The Grunge Rock sounded louder and not as sharp as the Hair Bands but still had a great sound. The synthesizer was one of the only major changes in the instruments used. It really fascinates me how much the sound of the music can change with the use of the same instruments. There was also like a more popish type rock in the 1990s. It sounded like a mix of the hair metal and pop from the 80s. some of the bands that I like from the genre would be the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cage the Elephant, Sublime, and Incubus. If you asked me which style It really all depends on what kind of mood I am in when I am listening to it. My favorite Grunge rock songs are Better Man from Pearl Jam, Sorry from Buckcherry, “or any song from Buckcherry”, Shakin’ Hands from Nickelback, Shimmer from Fuel, All I Want from The Offspring, All American Idiot from Green Day, and Reach for the Sky from Firehouse. Some of my favorite songs from the pop rock style are Two Princesses from Spin Doctors, Santa Monica from Everclear, the Other side from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Back Against the Wall from Cage the Elephant, and Wrong Way from Sublime. This decade was very prosperous for the rock industry and hopefully it continues to grow. here are a few songs so you can get a feel how the sound is.

Matts Majestic Music 2 Part 2

The 1980s not only had the very popular Hair Metal Bands, it also gave birth to some of the first Rap and Hip Hop groups. Some of the most popular Rap and Hip Hop groups of this time were NWA, Ice-T, Salt-N-Pepa, Big Daddy K, Run DMC, and the Beastie Boys. Their style of music was more of a heavy beat with strange sounds and steady rhythms. A lot of the rappers and Hip Hop groups wrote songs about their lives before they got famous.  Many of them had rough pasts growing up in poverty and they could barely get by on their own. There was also a lot more profanity in the lyrics of these songs than a lot of the other styles of music. Some of the big songs in this category would be Shoop by Salt-N-Pepa, a remake of Aerosmith’s Walk this Way by Run DMC, and Girls by the Beastie Boys. All these songs were huge hits back in the 1980s and are still fairly popular till this day.

               There were also a lot of very popular Pop groups and singers in the 1980s. Some big names in pop music were Madonna, the Cars, ABBA, Whitney Houston, Banana Rama, the Pet Shop Boys, Debbie Gibson, and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. They had a more smooth and peppy sound. Their music sounded a lot happier than the rap and Hip Hop music. These pop artists blended a little bit of guitar, drums, bass, piano, and synthesizers. They were also a lot like the rock groups, but their music was not as hard as the rock bands. Some of the famous songs are Hungry like the Wolf by Duran Duran, Don’t Stand So Close to Me by the Police, Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2, Rich Girl by Hall and Oats, and Dancing Queen by ABBA. All three styles really took the music industries by storm in the 1980s and defined that decade. Many of these bands are still performing now. It is crazy to think they have been performing and writing new songs for over 30 years.

Flash Back to the 1980s

The 1980s were a fantastic time for the music industry. It gave birth to so many styles of music that were never around before. However, in this blog we are only going to talk abut the Hair Metal Bands. This category consists of big bands like Poison, Motley Crue, Ratt, Guns and Roses, Bon Jovi, White Snake, Def Leppard, Skid Row, and Dokken. These are just a few of the big Hair Metal Bands in the1980s. They were the rock bands of this decade. They made a big appearance wearing makeup, leather pants, and had big, long, curly hair. Some of the big songs you may have heard of are, “Talk Dirty to Me” form Poison, “Home Sweet Home” from Motley Crue, “Sweet Child of Mine” from Guns and Roses, and “Living on a Prayer", from Bon Jovi. I could go on forever about how many big songs there were, but that would take too much time. They had loud flashy music with electric guitars, drums, bass guitars, and even synthesizers. They always threw in some crazy guitar solos and drum fills to bring the whole song together. The vocals were very powerful and sometimes scratchy and high pitched. It was a mix between heavy metal and the glamor rock from the 70s and really took the key elements from both genres. They had big concerts with flashing lights, fireworks, fire, and just amazing stunts to really get the crowd fired up. Most of these bands began by playing in  bars in Las Angeles. There was one bar called “The Whisky”. If your band played there you were almost guaranteed a record deal. These bands were loud, flashy, and ready to rock.
